● Modern combi boiler: A suitable modern combi boiler, such as a Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal or Viessmann combi boiler, can often supply a wet underfloor heating system. Appropriate controls, temperature regulation and an UFH manifold are required to manage the lower flow temperatures typically used by UFH.
● Existing combi boiler with radiators: UFH can sometimes be added to selected rooms while retaining radiators elsewhere in the property. The two systems operate differently, so the UFH circuits normally require their own temperature control and zoning rather than simply being connected directly to the radiator circuit.
● Mixed radiator and UFH system: A property can have radiators upstairs and UFH downstairs, for example. Separate thermostats and heating zones can allow each area to call for heat independently. The UFH manifold and associated controls regulate the temperature and flow through the UFH circuits, while the radiator circuit operates at its appropriate temperature.
● Older combi boiler: An older boiler may still be suitable in some circumstances, but its condition, output, controls and operating characteristics should be assessed before connecting a new UFH system.
● Air source heat pump: UFH can be particularly well suited to an air source heat pump because both are designed to operate efficiently at relatively low flow temperatures.
● Ground source heat pump: Ground source heat pumps can also work effectively with wet UFH where the system is correctly designed and sized for the property.
